This was an experimental animation I did where I explored a few different ideas inside one project. It's supposed to be creepy, which is not a connotation clients or professional work tends to have, so it was fun to do something different.
Conceptually I wanted it to be a struggle between balance and symmetry versus their counterparts imbalance and asymmetry. I designed this structure:
They are these odd, irregular geometric shapes that are all sightly off than what you are expecting, stacked in a way that doesn't seem possible. They are teetering and rocking and perpetually in motion, while on the ground and in the surrounding areas you see fallen, discarded pieces looking old, weathered, and forgotten.
I further emphasized contrast in the lighting with some bright and dark areas, as well as in the textures.
Once again I had fun with the sound design, I layered a whole bunch of different creepy sounds on top of each other. It sounds strange, discordant, unpleasant at times, with a rising intensity throughout. I used freesound.org for my effects.
The final crash sequence I just emptied the kitchen sink in After Effects and added heavy effects to make it feel disorienting and uncomfortable.
I think it came out well, was fun to do something that felt like a film but is mostly just interpretative.
