I had modeled this very geometric triangle patterns ages ago, maybe 2 or 3 years and I just never could figure out what to do with it. The shape lends itself to many design, I played around with a lot of tessellating patterns and other ambitious geometric looks but never found anything I really liked.
By the time I got to the newer versions of Cinema 4D, Fields were introduced and I found two key features that I used here:
- You can control Deformers
- You can control Vertex Maps
Those features allowed me to create this animation. I used a Linear Field on a correction Deformer, storing a state with the triangles emerged and recessed.
The same Field is used to control a Vertex Map, which alternated between two textures in Octane Render, a glossy metal and a transparent specular material. I popped some various HDR environments behind it and backlit it through the material to create the colorful patterns. I couldn't decide which color looked best so I did a variety.
Beyond that, I popped in some Displacement Textures on the tunnel walls and then animated the camera move so this could loop. Overall there are 8 different patterns, here are some screenshots of individual ones.
